What is important to me?

When did the unimportant begin to take precedent over the important?

The most precious things in my life are my relationship with God, my relationship with my husband, and my relationship with my childrenWhy then was I giving them the least amount of attention?

I am so….distracted.

I wake up in the morning, my head is clear and I am ready for the new day.  I am going to be focused today.  When my children speak to me, I won’t be thinking of the emails I need to respond to.  As I am reading a book to my baby girl, I will focus on the words that I am reading instead of noting in my mind the phone calls I need to return.  I will sit down and play with my children when they ask me instead of saying, “In a minute.  In five minutes.  Oh, Sweetie, I am so sorry we have run out of time to play your game.  It is already nap time.”

I won’t let the phone interrupt me.  I will ignore all texts that attempt to pull me away.  I will wait to look at my emails until nap time.

The end of the day drew near.

I did everything the way I had hoped not to.  I functioned as a busy bee.  A hamster running on a hamster wheel, running in place.  I had not accomplished much, but yet I was so overwhelmed.  Tired.

The unimportant took precedent over the important once again.

I am not fully present in these precious moments that could be all mine.

My mind is so distracted.

  1. Thanks for you comment, it was really nice! And I love the idea of your blog (and I loved the salmon recipe you posted, looks yummy!), I think it's great that you want to stop for a moment and enjoy the little things in life :)

  2. I love my son! "He is 16 years old) The best thing is the family! And I love life in all its manifestations.

  3. My friend and I were just talking about this today. She told me that she saw something on tv or read somewhere that your life should be like a jar in which you fill it with all of the big (important) things first before you pour the rice in.

I thought that was a very cool visual.

  4. Sad to say it seems to be the way of the world now. You have your priorities straight tho therefore it will all fall into place for you.

  5. Gosh I do this too often too :-/ sleeping is really the only time I am not thinking about something.

  6. YES!!!!! Another conviction for me! I have been struggling the past month or two with my love for tv! I have wanted to cAncel our cable but cannot work up enough courage to give up something I love but pulls me away from my family. I think it takes a strong woman to deny herself and her selfish desires for her family. Gonna get to that point soon hopefully but thanks for letting god speak through you to me :) I love reading your posts. They are encouraging and oddly enough speak to me :)

  7. I didn't know you blogged... this is so fun to find! Fully present is always a struggle for me to. I named this year, in fact, "year of presence" to try to learn about being present and being aware of God's Presence in my life. ...a learning curve, for sure! I will be reading... and revisiting.

  8. Something has got to give. I hate the feeling that I am drowning in my life. You cannot do it all, let go of something.

  9. Good Morning Jenna!!! I love your post. It is so true for many of us especially Mothers. Don't be so hard on yourself, your doing a great job with your family!!! You should be extremely proud of yourself that you are able to multitask... XoXo
